A couple of years ago, bullet journaling and “planners” as a hobby became more mainstream. These hobbies aren’t just for artists and doodlers who want to decorate and personalize journals, notebooks, and datebooks. These are great ways for you to track your habits.
Want to learn a new language? Drink more water? Sleep eight hours a night? Make sure you’re keeping up with housework? Tracking how you spend your time? These things are made a lot easier when you can keep track of your progress through a habit tracker.
Here are three completely different trackers you can use. Feel free to mix-and-match them to find the organizational tracking system that works best for you.
Planner or Notebook
I’ve already mentioned planners and notebooks, but let’s get into specifics. The favorite among bullet journal keepers are dot-grid paper, which allows you to form graphs and trackers fairly easy. While some of the notebooks can be a little pricey, it is a handy way to keep all of your habit trackers together.
If you’re strapped for cash, try printing some dot grid paper for free from Incompetch. You can even change the dots per inch and the colors of the dots.
Digital calendar
If you live in a much more digital world and would work better if you had a digital option, there are plenty of apps and digital calendars you can use to keep track of your habits. A couple of great examples are Habitify, Habitica, and Habitbull.
If you don’t want to download any more apps onto your phone, try keeping an Excel spreadsheet or a Google Sheet as a habit tracker. You can even come up with some great numbers and statistics without having to do the math yourself. The spreadsheet can do it for you, if you put in certain formulas.
Have an Accountability Buddy
An accountability buddy (or an accountabili-buddy) is a person that can help hold you accountable to your goals. It helps if you both want to develop and maintain new habits. Have regular check-ins, commiserate together, and celebrate together.
